Happy Mother's Day

This is a card I create this morning based on a technique of masking. First embossed in my Cuttlebug then I embossed a couple of pieces to cardstock to cut certain areas out of to keep the excess chalk from getting onto other areas. I decided I would chalk the entire design though.
I love the bright easy feel to the design and it just screamed spring to me.

More Layouts to share!

It seems to have been a week (month really) for me to feel as though I'm accomplishing things. Today I get to share two more Layouts which completes the first lesson in the Cricut: Scrapbooking Through the Year class I'm taking.

These were fun to work on even though some of them gave me a few problems. Like a trooper I tried again and worked things out. Okay maybe not quite as originally planned but life is full of unexpected things that we adapt to and keep on going.
This is January's page



This one I titled "Dreaming" due to my granddaughter's wanting to play in the snow and knew that it would be could so she dressed from head to toe in winter gear and made the best of the light dusting we did get. This was our second year in a row with almost no snowfall.

And now for February:


This is "Adore", it started out to be different ways of saying "I love you" but I was having problems getting the words to weld together with the frames on the second page and this is what I ended up. This was a special set of pages for me as Bill and I just celebrated our 33rd Anniversary. I plan to use pics of the two of together throughout the years to fill the frames with.

Next I will be working on the embossing class some more and see what I come up with for that lesson.

I'm so excited!

I started another class at www.mycreativeclassroom.com on Monday. Cricut: Scrapbooking Through The Year A 4 week class using our Cricut machines. Each week will consist of 3 months of themes. January - winter, February - love/romance/wedding, and March - birthday were week one.
So far I have gotten my Cricut cuts put into the Cricut Craft Room and just completed my first of the three. Each one while designing my cuts on the computer I got more and more excited to get these made. I ended up actually doing the one for March first.

I played with the doing it pretty much the same as the instructor's design wise, and thought it would be perfect for using pics from hubby's Navy Retirement Ceremony...but decided not to do that after all.
I kept playing with the idea of working on granddaughter's dance album. So that ended up being my plan:
I did use the sketch that the Instructor used along with images from the Wall Decor and More (dancer and star border).
I also used the colors from my granddaughter's dance studio (black, purple and zebra print).


I know it isn't a birthday LO but I really like it and can't wait to add photos (her dance recital is next month). It was so much fun to do and I love the way it turned out (even though the zebra print isn't something I'd usually use...just not inside my normal "box").

More Embossing

Lesson two of the Everything Embossed II class took me longer to complete...well the techniques are completed but not all used on projects yet. Here are the items worked on:

This first one was doing a resist on canvas paper...I love this look! and finished this one up by making into a layout of my darling granddaughter.

The next one was embossed a metal sheet. I used an ATC size of sheet metal by Imagine. Then used Alcohol inks to color the design. I'm still trying to figure out how I want to use this but really like it.



This next one was heat embossing on acrylic after using the embossing folder; I have mixed feeling with this one as it is quite messy in my opinion but like the idea. It could just be my embossing folder was too busy (which I think it was the problem for the most part). I did try this a couple of times and had better luck with a different design.


The second try:

At last but not least was embossing on acrylic again but using Liquid Perfect Pearls to spray color onto. This turned out pretty cool I think with the transparent look under the pearly shine.



I am anxious to get these made into something soon.

Two more cards!

Today was one of those rare days that I got to relax and play with my craft supplies! Last night I made a card for the first lesson in the Everything Embossed II class and posted. Today I got to complete the rest of the lesson for the class and made two more cards.

The first of the two was Resist with wax paper: Really a transfer of the wax onto paper which provided the wax for the color to stay away for the design to come through.


I love the look of this and can imagine it being used for so many things. I added for embellishment to this card quilled roses from a quilling die another first for me....lol.


This next card is a Resist with crayon and then watercoloring. Crayons! I have always loved using crayons and when my kids were still in school and I bought there new box of crayons for school I had to have one also...lol. I hadn't used water colors in soooo long and the ones I have in my craft supplies are in tubes (never used those before today). I wasn't sure where I was heading for when I began this card but just let it take me away. I have to say the end result I really LOVE and so outside the norm for me. I love the look of a mosaic or tiled table cloth and just screamed Fiesta! to me.



As is usual for me I didn't add a sentiment to these cards and won't til I go to use them. This is really just because I have made cards in the past and put particular sentiments on them and then needed a card and thought "If only it didn't have that sentiment on it....I could use it now" SO it just works better for me.

A New Technique......Well for me.

Today I began a class at http://mycreativeclassroom.com/ "Everything Embossed II" Taking embossing to new heights.
Our first lesson (Part 1) is Resist Technique with Embossing Powder. It was very interesting to combine the use of the embossing folder and heat (wet) embossing.

I really like the way this card turned out and just seemed to come together once I got the accent embossed piece figured out. In the lesson the instructor, Deena Ziegler used a flower/medallion embossing folder for the accent piece; this was something I didn't have as most of mine are background type embossing folders so I used the same Flourish embossing folder used on the black background on the cream cardstock. As in the lesson, the accent piece then got the resist treatment of sponging a dye ink which adhered to the space the embossing powder was not melted onto. This just screamed for Lime Green ink to me and I then added a lime green sheer ribbon and peridot gem to complete the card front which I did add the lime green layer of card stock to make it really pop.

The next part of the lesson is a resist technique with wax paper. I have this part almost completed but well it is getting late and tomorrow starts at 5 so I'm calling it a night and will post another card tomorrow.

Birthday banner and cupcakes

Well today is the big day...my granddaughter turns 5! She is getting too big too fast! And turning into a lovely young lady....well okay still very much a girlie girl tomboy but has such a wonderful spirit and curious about all things.

Each year coming up with her party plans ends up requiring alot of planning and is such a fun time for me. First birthday was a simple one: chocolate cake with family and letting her dive right in. Second birthday was a trip by plane to Oklahoma to spend it with extended family and a whole princess party complete with castle cake. Third birthday was a spring themed one with a giant cupcake and lots of little cupcakes all dressed out with pretty butterflies. Fourth birthday was a Unbirthday Tea Party which was alot of fun with a topsy turvy cake and pocket watch invitations.

This year with Easter so early it only seemed right to make it an Easter themed party, so Easter egg invitations, and bunnies and Easter games galore will be hopping around my house this weekend.



This is waiting for that wake up this morning. She is so excited about her birthday that she asked to be put to bed last night. Okay she rarely ever fights bedtime but I don't think she has ever asked to be put to bed before....lol.

For her birthday she is also taking cupcakes to preschool today



Last week was cupcakes at her other preschool class and tomorrow is a party at Preschool to celebrate her birthday and Easter. Then the party here on Saturday...but we think she is special and worth celebrating. :)
